We get asked this question a lot and the answer is anytime! Whether you work with an interior decorator from the beginning of designing house plans to simply updating a few pieces in a room, it can help ensure you get it right from the beginning, which saves you stress, time, and money in the long-run.
Here’s our breakdown when people most often come to us for help:
New construction
If you have the luxury of building your own home beginning with house plans, you can create a home that is completely custom to meet your needs, tastes, and lifestyle, and a designer can help ensure you get exactly that out of your home. Perhaps this will be your forever home, so you want to consider your needs not just now, but later in life as well. Go ahead and plan for the long-term by placing the master on the bottom level, create wider doorways, and make sure your master has a walk-in shower with seating.
If you are building a two-level home, have children, and rooms upstairs and downstairs, consider a second laundry room. You’ll thank us later when your children are going through three changes of clothes a day between school, sports activities, PJs and you aren’t slepping laundry up and down the stairs. Or perhaps you have aging parents and you need to consider building an in-law quarters. No matter your life stage or situation, we help guide you through those considerations that will save you on renovations later.
Renovating a home
Maybe you purchased a “fixer upper” or it’s time to update your existing home, so that you can fall in love with it all over again (and avoid the hassle of having to move). There are many times you don’t know where to start and we can help bring the possibilities to life! Designers can also help identify areas where you should splurge, areas where you should save (refinish floors rather than ripping them out), and help you get the most out of your budget.
Furnishing a new home
You’ve just purchased a new home and want to start from scratch with a new look. We can help you identify your design style for your current phase in life and look at your needs in the near future, so that you aren’t going too trendy and feel like you need to update your home again in 3-5 years.
Refreshing your current home
Whether you want to start fresh and overhaul your entire home design or you want to incorporate some new into your existing décor, we can help you through the process of giving your home a facelift.
Updating a single room
Whether it’s a master bedroom update to create the escape of your dreams or you’re now an empty nester and need to do something to spruce up and create a purpose for those extra bedrooms, we can help!
Shopping for one or two replacement items
Ironically this is one of the times we can be most helpful. So often we get calls from someone who purchased a sofa online and it was too big, wasn’t big enough, or the quality doesn’t hold up to their lifestyle. It leaves you frustrated you’ve already invested money into something that doesn’t work and leaves you back at square one, minus what money was wasted on the sofa. Whether its a sofa, a dining table, or chairs, we can help you select the right piece for your space. If we don’t have what you’re looking for in store, we can always show you additional options and order it for you!
No matter what project you’re ready to take on, it’s important to keep it fun! By partnering with an interior designer, we help take the stress of planning, shopping, and installing off your hands, so that you can sit back, soak it all in, and enjoy.
I thought you brought up a great point when you mentioned that it might be helpful to have an additional laundry room upstairs if you have a larger family. My wife and I have been lucky enough that we get to build our own house soon. It might be helpful for us to hire an interior designer so we can make the best use of space in our house when it is finished.
Congratulations on getting to build your own home soon – what an exciting project! We always recommend working with a professional to think through the best use of space. It’s also helpful to go to new construction open houses, before you begin your project to see what features you might like to incorporate into your home. Screened in patios, laundry rooms connected to master baths and/or closets (and an extra laundry room upstairs), and butler pantries are all big trends we have been seeing lately that we expect to stay a while. It’s also about the quality of the home and home design, over larger sizes or mini mansion, so that it’s easier to sell down the road. If we can be of any assistance, feel free to reach out and we will be glad to help walk you through that planning process prior to working on the plans of your home!
