Charming in the Heights – Little Rock, Arkansas

When it came time to update a historic Heights cottage, we knew we had to get it right. It was a balance between brightening up the home and opening it up to have a more modern, open layout, all while maintaining its historic integrity and charm.

To help the home feel larger and improve traffic flow between rooms, subtle structural updates were made, such as widening the doorways throughout the home. We also made better use of space, by opening up a small butler’s panty to create an intimate dining nook and extra cabinets that serve as a display space. The color scheme of cream, ivory, and blush hues was intentionally chosen to bright up the home and make it feel larger. Even the trim was painted to match the wall color, so that it would blend in and not separate the seamless flow of the eye.

The updated house was enhanced with new furnishings from top to bottom, except for an antique chandelier and desk incorporated from a previous residence. These pieces blended well with the rest of the of the finishes used throughout the home that were a pleasing mix of new and old, rustic and refined. Together, they ensured that the soft palette was anything but boring. While the home was designed to be beautiful, it was also designed with durability in mind to last and comfortably serve this family that includes a young daughter and dog. Not only has it served them well, it has grown into a popular hangout for extended family and friends.
